We are presently discussing corporate vehicles, considering replacing Lexus 300 GS sports with Disco 3s (my preferred option). One of my colleagues has put forward an argument that Disco 3s are large and more obvious vehicles that could have a harmful reaction from clients whereas the present cars are more ‘normal’ looking and provide good comfortable transport. Have any forum members using Disco 3s for business experienced anti 4X4 reactions from clients?

If your that worried about anti 4x4 customers views, catch the fookin bus

Yes, well, helpful as always Sirus.

Bottom line is that in the coming years, anything that is not marketed as an environmentally friendly vehicle will almost certainly be percieved poorly in commercial circles.

If you want to be seen to be doing "the right thing" what about the hybrid version of the 300GS ??

Yeh its gonna be wonderful when everything is delivered by water powered trucks......Hybrid cars...how much benefit is there on the environment with them???

typical small minded short term attitude that many people who have been suckered into this green debate have

have you got any concept of the overall production/use/disposal and the associated energy/environmental footprint of those so called hybrids ?

if your that bothered by client reaction, use public transport - as previoulsy suggested by the LZ man of few words but many powers

If everyone switched to hybrid cars there wouldn't be enough electricity to boil yur kettle. Most stoopid idea ever, till the infrastrucure is there to cope with the demands of an electric vehicle country.

Oooo look at that big nasty car using all that fuel.......Oooo look at that ruddy great big lorry using much more fuel to deliver your packaged sandwhiches to you supermarket......get a grip

an the v8 rangie an the v8 series 3

good man, global warming is a good thing

peeps feel better when the weather is warmer

increased global warming will result in lower NHS expenditure

lower NHS expenditure = lower taxes

You obviously have no understanding of how hybrid cars work, this has nothing to do with the national grid and your kettle. These are NOT electric cars.

Other more thoughtful contributers have raised real issues about the "big picture" of environmental protection but the originator of this thread was, foolishly, asking us to give him a view of 4x4's and their relative acceptance to his customer base.

He is posing a commercially-based question on a forum dedicated to people who have a completely different view of life and living to his own.

Aye and he got the view of people who drive 4x4's because they want to not because they think it will impress someone.

Hybrid cars are a waste of resources and when it comes to disposing of them the carbon footprint/environmental impact will be far greater than that created by a disco.

Why would they have a greater carbon footprint on ultimate disposal, it's not as if they have loads of batteries in them like electric cars do?

I'm not saying you are wrong, I would just like to know, that's all.

I personally (as you will see by my sig) prefer Discos, but I would be interested to see over the life, say 15 yrs, of the environmental impact of a Disco3 TDV6 aver. mpg of say 20 (lower because it's business use, people in a hurry etc), at for example 20,000mls pa with it's ultimate crush costs and the same of a Hybrid Lexus 300GS which does do better on fuel, so let's say 25mpg.

As far as I'm concerned the big advantage of hybrids are to be found mainly in towns and cities where, whilst in traffic, they consume nothing at standstill and create no pollution - noise or smoke.

Thats just the point.....when London was smog bound because of the coal powered things...was there global warming????? Our air is too clean now....need to burn more trees and coal to block out the sun again.

Well over 15 years you'd probably need 3 lexus's as I can't see them lasting much more than 5 years then there's all the environmental damage created by the development design and build. as well as the new factories that have had to be built to supply the parts for the motors and to build the cars in the 1st place. All this has to be figured into the "whole life impact" of a vehicle.

Ok Redhand I can see your point about "whole life impacts" but to say that you would need 3 Lexus to one Land Rover, when the vast majority are used on-road, is simply not logical (Captain)!

Which are the most reliable cars on the road year in-year out according to JD Power? Toyota - who is Lexus? - Toyota;

Which 4x4 pick-up did Top Gear try to destroy in a series of bizare and funny tests - Toyota.

I love my Landys for what they are, including all their very well-known faults, not out of some misplaced loyalty to a British company that isn't british anymore and hasn't been so for many years now.

Unfortunately the facts stack up for themselves in favour of Japanese cars, can't we just accept that they are good, but just not what we like/want? As my wife said - they lack character.

you also need to factor into account that peeps are being conned into buying so called green cars when they allready have a perfectly usable vehicle, this demand for new vehicles yet again adds to the overall impact

also guilty of fueling this ever increasing demand/hype are those who buy green simply so that they can be seen to be doing the right thing - i suspect the OP falls into this category of gullible buyers

If your just buying a car to create a good impression on your customers then you can take 2 views .....posh flashy car to impress ****s...or small 60mpg hatcback to impress the greenies.... just get one of each and ask the customer which vehicle he would like to see you arrive in....frankly i don't give a toss...
