Spot on chum. My nearest town in Hampshire has, over the last seven
years mutated from a market town with a large population of well-heeled
people to a weekend retreat for people from London. They appear for
three days in large well polished 4x4s which adventurously tackle the
on-street parking on a Saturday morning.
Of course they have an opinion on all aspects of local life and the
primary interest is to get dirty, beaten up 4x4s off the local byways.
My route home takes me via a deep ford (in a big Ford) then down a
single track unmade road. This route has become popular for walks with
weekenders who believe that the ford is in fact a free paddling pool for
their children and the single track lane is a dog-walking route.
Anyone daring to use the route must be obstructed. It doesn't matter how
polite one is to the thick bastards, the fact that one is in a 4x4 and
daring to use the road is cause for scowls, and abuse. Having to remove
the children from the ford is to be treated as a gross imposition and if
possible the 4x4 owner should be stopped and told that this route is not
suitable for vehicles. Stupid arrogant sodding townies.
