While doing my 200Tdi conversion I've noticed that both the radiator and intercooler the fins inbetween are a bit crumbly. The rad and intercooler both work fine (not burst) but are fragile. Would it be worth getting the fins redone or just leave well enough alone?

My rad was in a similar state when I did mine. I just renewed it as the costs are similar to recore. After putting all that hard work into your engine, you don't want to cook it. My intercooler was in good nick, so I retained the old one.

I re-cored the one for my 300tdi, cost £150 (bit more than a cheap replacement rad). I think I have a better quality item as it is a proper 'copper' re-core (rather than aluminium) and still uses the metal end caps rather than plastic ones so should last longer in the long run.

I had radiators re-cored in the past but when I needed a new 300TDi radiator I enquired at my local place and they said it just wasn't cost effective in my case so I bought a Bearmach copper / brass one instead. Quality was spot on and it has been fine.
You CAN buy the alloy / plastic ones but for another 30% you can buy one to OE spec.

Annuver +1 for the Bearmach HD one;);), if I'm honest I can't remember where I got it from:confused:, but this price rings a bell:rolleyes::rolleyes:;);)

No, standard one I think (certainly identical to the genuine one I removed).

Turned out my original rad (which was only about 4-years old at the time) was still perfect and the fault was to be found elsewhere but I left the Bearmach rad in place as the quality was well up to the spec of the original one. If I had thought it was of lesser quality I would have removed it and re-fitted the original.
