So finally got around to fitting my new dash filled up with RDX K Switches (essentially Carling clones but with engraved legends). We got the majority of the switches wired in and the all work as they should, the problem comes with the sidelight feed and the red slit 'on' illumination.

All the original landy switches + heated seat switches all light up with the sidelights but my auxiliary lights do not even though they are wired in the exact same way. Can't work out why

Second annoying issue is the red slit illumination which is very hit and miss. The heated seats, rear washer jets, HID all have the red slit working when on but the LEDs x2, fog, heated screen, rear wiper red slit does not light up when on but rather always on when the switch is off. Again wired in exactly the same as the ones that work!

Any ideas?

ive just bought some carling switches , would it help if I sent over the wiring diagrams from them or wouldn't that help

know the LED needs 20 milliamps for the small strip to light up

wonder if the earth may be an issue

funny enough gone into this with the carling switches so will try and help if I can

just found this and it says there are 5 connections on the back with ur type of switch

2 x earths for each led
1 x power for legend led
1 x power input for the switch
1 x power output that also illuminates the Orange slit

don't know if that helps any

ps got to get some more switches, as on the carling ones the top plastic bit over hangs past the main body section

do u happen to have a picture , like a side view please just so I can compare them please to the carling ones

think I may get ur type as they certainally look ok and are cheaper

Had the same problem with an off on on carling switch from Mud Uk which I used to replace the heater blower switch.
Light on when switch is off and goes off when switched on.
Otherwise works fine.
E-mailed Mud who said that to use the switch for that purpose I needs a twin pole switch which they don't supply but could get me one, they are a different coloured light however so I didn't bother.
That's probably the reason why your switches are doing the same.
Perhaps someone who knows electrics can explain the difference, Ta.

are the ones causing problems going through relay , could they give a feed back voltage onto the switch by any chance

is there something like a capacitor fitted on some switches to try and prevent this

thks for the pic and it looks as though the top doesn't protude past the body

was wondering banks , do u ever come this way plse as would be great to see these switches in person if that's at all possible please

hope u get it sorted out mate and will be interesting to see how u resolved it

just thought the earth could be the problem , but as the other gent has said with regards to the double poll

would an earth from a different place help at all to dismiss the stray voltage if that's what it is ???

had a thought , have u got a decent multimeter

disconnect the earth wires and see if u are getting any feed back in order to illuminate the led when the switch is off also , to see which wire is giving u feed back via the multimeter

plus as the other guys have suggested

just an idea

Borrowed a mates multi meter and managed to get them all to light up! Down to a poor earth on a few of the switches...

Red slit issue is a pain still. I turned the switch on and had a cable on earth which I touch to various pins on the switch. All I got was red slit on when switch is off. Going to email Bolt on Bits now see what they have to say about it...

Switches that work 100% with sidelight and correct red slit 'on' illumination

Front FOG (HIDs Spots) (Off-On) - Original switch had no 'on' LED
Rear Washer Jets (Off- Mom) - Original switch had no 'on' LED
Heated Seats L/R (Genuine Carling, On-Off-On) - Original switch had an LED when on (low) and when on (high)

Ones with no red slit when switch is turned on -
All RDX K Switches

Rear Wiper (Off-On)
Heated Front Screen (Off-On)
LED Light Bar (Off-On)
LED Roof Lights (Off-On)
Rear FOG (Off-Mom) - Original switch did have an 'on' LED

When connected up the same way as the working switches the red slit illuminates when switch is off and red slit turns off when switch is on.

@bankz5152
I know it's a long shot....
Did BOBits mail to say how to wire these up?
Or did you work it out

Iv got it so it slot lights up when on but can't get any of the switches to light the legend.
Sat with a meter try all combos

They did send me a wireing diagram for them. I had the opposite got sidelight feed working but not the red slit. On the 110 I went for genuine Carlings wired up in a 10th of the time without pulling my hair out.

If you PM me on the weekend ill see if ive still got it and ill send it over.

No worries I should have fitted these on Friday. ;) But can always change at a later date.
Will pm next week.
I have 2colour(red/green)leds that normally show what's working.

This is for the RDX , don’t know if it’s any good mind

2 x earths for each led
1 x power for legend led
1 x power input for the switch
1 x power output that also illuminates the Orange slit

Looks as thought to light up the legend it’s wired into ur instrument panel bulbs

Thanks @gstuart
Would you know which is which?
Found the
earth
Live
Switched live

Got the slot to light up when switched. So must be backwards

Hi

Have u just got one terminal left empty then plse

How many terminals have u got and what are u using the switch for

Can then have a look more into the files and pics I have

Had a similar problem. I've now connected all the earths together, then to the bulkhead. I had to adjust the on-off-on to make the illumination work on both ''ons'. The four ways required separate wiring to work properly.

5 pins total

2 top
1 centre
2 bottom

May have just figured it out...
Live to centre
Top is the switch so other must be earth

Earth on the bottom
Leaves 1 pin left?
May be live for other led?

All switches are the same using these For fan,hi beam, fogs reverse lights.
All are just switching relays

Keep the info coming. It's what I like about this forum
