I,m renovating some of the smaller panels before i strip it down for a complete refurb, been offered a razor bonnet at a decent price and want to know if i can take it apart so i can derust prime and paint the inner parts, or will riveting it all back together be more trouble than its worth. Also how do the rivets on the bonnet fix on as they have a dome head, is there a special tool,

I think its a special shape of dolly used to make the rivet head. If you look on johnny curt's rebuild thread, he had a go doing the same thing you want to do and he has a few piccies too :)

I learnt how to do these in college, was a while ago mind.
very easy to damage material you're riveting.
do-able with practice though.

Just typed that in the search function got no match? got a link by any chance.

forgot to mention me **** hot tip fer removing the old rivets

from the inside use a bloody good sharp wood chisel to pop the rounds off the rivets but do this on the frame side of the bonnet not the top side as not to leave any ghastly marks on the finished article ( basicaly chisel the head off the buggers but use short fast sharp hits with the hammer not heavy blundering clouts )

just sharpen the chisel evry 7 to 10 rivets and theyll crop off lovely and just push through

hell of a lot faster and neater than drilling or grinding the bastids off :D:D:D:D

if id had the money the only thing i would have done different is buying the pre made replacement frame either complete or in parts rather than fettle about with making my own to suit ;)
