The rear door on my defender 90 is rattling & is driving me a bit mad, I have tried slamming it real hard, tried adjusting the screws by the rubber stopper near the catch to no avail.
The spare wheel is attached to the rear door & when I removed the wheel the problem was nowhere near as bad, I thought the wheel may be a bit loose on the mounts but everything is nice & tight & the mounting on the actual door is well solid.
The rattling is more like a vibration but it is really pronounced & can be heard even over my radio when it's on loud.
I'm down with the fact that the defenders do rattle & stuff but this is really turning out to be a significant problem for me & it's only recently started doing this.
Also when I bought my vehicle I had it waxoyled, I was checking under the drivers seat the other day looking for tools & the chassis/frame was caked in dirt/mud, should this have not been cleaned off during the undersealing? I havent done any off road stuff yet either.
thanks in advance for any help or advice :)

I'd consider getting a swinging spare wheel carrier as they are designed to take the weight off the door hinges but at the same time they also bolt to the door which stops it from rattling. I'v just fitted one of these and it works fantastic.
Good Luck!!

dont mean to steal your post but stu, do you have the instructions for fitting? i bought my 90 and had the carrier with it, but i have to fit it myself with no instructions! there are so many bits, im not sure where to start. any chance you could PDF them to me?

cheers

G

I most certainly do have the instructions for it! and the instructions for everything els for that matter!! Is yours a MANTEC one??? Funily enough I had to fit it without instruction as they were at work. If you give me a couple of hours to sort through and find em.

Griffdowg, I can't seem to make this PDF file small enough to sent it. These instructions are only as a piccy - nothing written. Maybe you could PM me an e-mail address to sent it to??

Thanks for the reply stu!;)
Where did you source you wheel carrier from? & was it easy to fit?
Any thoughts on the waxoyl subject I posted?

Has anyone bought the ISLAND 4X4 spare wheel carrier no DA2232, at £125.00p inc VAT.

If so, are they good, and are they easy to fit please.

I have one, it took about an hour to fit and was pretty easy.

Ive heard tell of the finish not being as good (powdercoating coming off) but they are half the price of some others. So you pays yer monies, yer takes yer choice and all that.

Decided to fit a swinging spare wheel carrier to our 90 soon as we have gone to wider wheels just need to buy a matching spare wheel 16 x 8 black modular wheel which is a lot heavy'r than the 16 x 7 black modular and 265 special track tyre that's fitted now, just not decided which carrier to get :(
