rattle/whine from fanbelt area

Got a rattle whine from something on the fanbelt drive train as the noise dissapears when the belt is taken off. Have changed the water pump (twice), the belt tensioner bearings and checked the power steering pump and alternator (both OK). been doing it for 8 months or so and has got no worse, Anybody any ideas what this could be?
