Just wondering if anyone can help me?

My RR has sprung a pretty bad leak,After driving a few miles the coolant starts to leak and the temp goes into the red, I have her parked up as I don't want to do any more damage,
I think the head's undamaged, but wonder what would have caused the leak.
I tried using a stop leak solution to no avail!

Now I am thinking of replacing the Rad and I was wondering had anyone any tips or how to s on removal?
It seems straight forward enough so I am going to do it myself

Regards Illiadie

You would have to remove the rad to replace the water pump if it should leak or the bearings fail.

The thermostat, fan/alternator belt and the a/c belt can be changed with the rad in place but its a pig of a job.

Just makes sense to me to spend a bit more and do the job once.

Thermostat> £8.00/12.00 depending how purchased
Fan & AC (if fitted) Belts> £25.00
Water Pump> £45.00

All prices approximate.

Makes Sense and I am going to do it while I am at it!

I have detached everything including bottom bolts ,there doesn't seem to be any cooler pipes on the bottom of the rad are these on my a/c rad

Can't find my 36mm spanner so doing it tomorrow but the nut on the fan hub seems to be a bit difficult to reach?

Just a few observations for anyone searching these posts!

range rover 1997 2.5 dse auto

The viscous fan hub nut on the above needed a 32mm spanner.

removed by turning clockwise ( or for other models in the direction the fan turns, it's self tightening)

After securing the spanner on the nut a hard tap on the spanner with a hammer should untighten the nut

Many thanks to ZZr for his help

regards illiadie

Ps I should be back shortly with more Qs regarding water pump and belts

Anyone know how to get the fan belt on?

For the life of me I cannot loosen the tensioner to get it on that extra bit!

I used a suitable size bar and levered back the tensioner, you might have to only part fit the belt over the pulleys to start with, then move it fully over to finish.

I take it you do have it routed correctly around the pulleys?

Yes pretty sure the routing is ok ! is there a diagram around for this just in case? I should have drawn it

How did you attach or get purchase of the bar on the tensioner, there doesn't seem to be anywhere to attach the bar to , in order to pull back the tensioner

Besides this, the tensioner really won't budge

I have changed a few fan belts before, but this has me stumped

An immediate update...

Yesterday I was trying to think what bar or bit of pipe i could use and today after reading ZZr reply it dawned on me

Bingo,, My crowbar worked a treat,Fan belt on now,but still think that tensioner was pretty tight,

Thanks ZZr

Pretty sure I have the belt on fan/water pump pulley side correct. just worried about the pulleys on the right side!!

Just checked The belts routing with rave cd and i have them on correctly!!

But the range will not start it just shows a series of faults on the dash starting with abs fault and engine disabled!

any ideas appreciated
