Guys'n'gals,

It pains me to say it, but having had my '99 4.6 HSE for 2 years, I am thinking of moving on. She is a beautiful vehicle, and I still get stiff listening to that big bore Janspeed gurgle, and since I went to coils a year ago she has not given me one major fault or let me down, which I think is pretty good for an 80k P38.

I went offroading a couple of weekends ago, and although I didn't do any obstacles, she took every mudhole, rut and hill in her stride. I've been bitten by the bug and want to do more. Problem is, just can't get the selection of after-market parts for the P38 to properly pimp her up. Even my 2" lift has the shafts at their limit, and I can't easily source wide-angled shafts, bigger springs, diff guards, winch, roof ladders etc etc.

I am thinking about either a Disco-2 or a Defender 90. It must have a V8 cos I like noise, and we all know that power and torque is everything.

I am tending to the Disco cos I would still like to take Mrs Jock and the hellspawn to Sainsbury's in it, and she won't be chuffed with them sitting open-air in the back of a truck, or the other side of a steel plate.

Any thoughts welcome from you experienced people.

Hi just one question why a Disco and not a classic as some parts for a classic are cheeper than a disco and there are a lot up for grabs at a good price sory I may be a bit biast as I have rearly never been much for Discos although they are still good vehicles in there own right.

There are stuff available for the p38 not sure about shafts tho I don't like the p38 tampered with too much. IMO you'll be better off having both an off road and on road landy.

Derek,

It's noisy to *just* the right amount. It's not intrusive or yobbish, but a beautiful rumble at start-up and low revs, a growl at midrange, and a deep throating rip when you hit the gas. It can turn heads in underpasses.

It's a nice pipe, hugs the underside and doesn't reduce the clearance. Very happy with mine, will definately buy another. I picked up from Roadrunner Motor Sport for £399 (ebay) as my old one was blowing anyway. Total recommend it. If it's a pre-2000 model though you do have to cut semi-circles in the rear skirt to fit it, but all the hangers fit snug straight off.

As soon as I can be fekked getting the PC out and fitting my firewire card I will video this thing with sound and post it.

I had an 88 3.5 EFi for over a year, but flogged it when I had repeated electrical problems which just wore me down. I though about another classic, but you know what... I like the idea of ocassional 7 seats. It's wrong, I know.

I have thought about that, but if I do that, then the off-road landy is not gonna get used ever other than on the off-roads. If I only have the one, I will have to maintain it, and will use it at weekends for garden/dump trips, delivering kids, you name it. Landy's don't like sitting around for long in my experience.
