Hi All,

Can anyone explain for me how the Range Rover Vogue TDV8's differential locks work?
I have tried to google this and found a lot of related topics but most of them appeared to be vague.
What I managed to figure out is that they are electronic diff locks but I have no idea how they actually work.
In addition, I'd appreciate if someone could tell me whether they can be manually locked. I don't suppose they can but someone might know otherwise.

Do a goooooogle for Torsen Type B Torque Sensing and Torque Biasing Centre Differential....

The Only 'Lockable' diff on the L322 is the Centre one that uses this system....the axle diffs aren't locable, but the Traction Control system does brake the spinning wheel to allow the other wheel to maintain traction....

Also download RAVE as this will have the system operation information in it to tell you how it works!!!

As far as I know it doesn't have any diff locks? The centre diff is a Torsen diff which is limited slip and the rest is done by traction control applying the brakes, a cheap and nasty alternative to a diff lock.
Someone will no doubt be along to correct me if this is not true on the later models.

Regarding the transfer case, the Torsen differential only featured in the NV225 casing which was replaced for ‘06MY (or ’07 for the diesel) when the 6-speed transmissions were introduced. Chaba’s TDV8 is fitted with the Magna Steyr DD295 unit and this transfer case uses an ECU-controlled multi-plate clutch pack to limit the slip between front & rear. Ah, so they have replaced a simple effective LSD with a complicated unit that is more likely to fail:rolleyes:
 
I realise that I run the risk of being hung, drawn and quartered for posting like this, in this forum, but.....
Bemble, I have been trying to PM you, but search as I may, nowhere can I find out how to!!
I know, I'm a stupid old fool who shouldn't be left in charge of a Range Rover, but how the HELL does one private message someone else? I've been trying to work out how for over an hour....... please someone, help!
 
Don’t worry – it’s not you :). I have my private messaging switched off. I post on a number of forums and soon found that I spent all my time answering PMs full of questions relating to transmissions and transfer boxes. I’m not a professional transmission rebuilder – I just do them for fun. It’s much better if you post your questions on the forum then others get the opportunity to contribute and pass on the benefit of their experience too.

Actually it wasn't about transmissions that I wanted your help with, it was with Sat nav.
I noticed how helpful you had been to a fellow in that forum, but the last entry there was several months ago and I wasn't sure if anyone would notice if I put my question there, after so long.
As you can see, I'm not at all familiar with posting on forums!
Ought I to post there, or start a new thread?
