hi all, I’m newish on here.
On my Range Rover vogue td6 I have a starting problem. Keys go in get the ignition lights up then turn the key to get the engine to turn over and nothing but, what sounds like morse code sound” to the left of the ignition switch. I have had the car serviced and new battery fitted in addition I’ve had an after market push-Buttion fitted to get me out of a jam however I do what to get this issue resolved and use the key to start the car.
If anyone can give me advise or point me in the right direction I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
Hayden

Welcome :)
When did the issue start? Did you get it serviced/new battery because of it? Or did it start after this?
Have you checked the new battery is the right size? There are different sizes for the L322 and as a Vogue, yours needs the biggest and baddest. I can't remember the coca, at the moment, but it a quick search of the forum will bring it up for you.
Other than that , maybe @Saint.V8 , @holidaychicken and I think, but not sure, maybe @mozz smith might have some insight.
Whilst waiting for the cavalry, try searching around the forum. There might already be a solution posted.

Addit: Just had a look at your posts from Feb 2018. Did you get your electrical problem resolved? Also might be an idea to let the guys know the full story of the vehicle( the electrical issues and battery issues mentioned in your first post) . That way the gurus aren't dancing in the dark.

This problem had started before I had it serviced but it would start on the key every now and again but once it was serviced and had a new battery fitted it never started on the key again. The auto electrician sorted 90% of all the other problems but said he knew little about land rovers. So it’s just the starting problem I’m left with. Thanks for all your help so far.

Morning Ma’am
The after market morse code device would be my first suspect

Morning Andy ;) rubber-dagger.jpg
Oooo Morse code, maybe the car is sending a message

Just to clarify, the after market push-button was put in after the service. Now I put the key get ignition lights push the button and it starts but if I try to start the engine with the key that’s when I get the “morse code” sound. So it definitely is something to do with the ignition switch. Question, if I change the ignition barrel/switch is there anything else I would need to change within the ignition system?

I know it might be a really simple thought , BUT, has whoever put the push start in by-passed your barrel in some way that stops the key working? Have you phoned them to ask?

Thanks to you all for your help and support it is truly appreciated. Now I have to go on the hunt for an ignition switch if anyone knows who may have one or where I can get one I would be one happy Range Rover owner.

Hi Gold rover, yes I did phone him and he said it wouldn’t stop the key from starting the engine on it’s own, it’s just a fail safe in case the key wouldn’t start the engine. Thanks

There are several on a popular auction site . I expect new one will be a little more expensive but available in the usual places online.

Just had another thought. When my battery was changed for the correct and new one. During the change can that knock out any fuses or cause any problems to the sensitive electronics. I only ask because the garage that changed the battery was a high-street Tyre’s and battery company and I don’t think they knew much about RR’s

Hi guys. I’ve managed to purchase a new ignition switch and should arrive in the next few days. My question of the day is; what is the procedure to changing out the switch, any diagrams very welcome.
Thanks in advance
Hayden
