Range Rover td6 turbo failure

Hi I have a Range Rover 2002 td6 and on the way home today the turbo failed. Managed to turn it off before it started smoking but now on start up it sounds like the engine is low on pressure but does start and run fine. Is this just down to the turbo failing or could it be something else? Many thanks.

What makes you think its failed??

Hi just Because of the noise it's making and it's been making a squealing noise for the past week and there's no power

you haven't got a split in the turbo to intercooler pipe have you?

No it's definitely the turbo you can hear it. I know the turbo has gone but just wondered why it's doing that on start up

If you think the turbo has failed you should not be starting the engine at all until it is checked out.

Yes just had to start it to move it as we can't get it looked at until after the new year now. Do you know if it's normal to start like that if it was just the turbo?
