Range Rover p38 2.5 auto

The pump is not working at all now, the pump was very hot to touch, it’s frustrating as nobody lives near by who could possibly help me out, I’m a bit slower these days as I have been unwell for the last two years and I got blown up in Afghanistan which doesn’t help but I will fix this issue

Are the brakes working? If they are it's not the pump at fault. If the pump was running all the time it would be very hot, normally it only runs for short periods. I suspect the pressure switch is the problem.

They will be if the pump isn't running.
What were the brakes like when you went up the road and the pump was running?

Put the relay back in, keys out, does the pump come on? That seems to be what you were saying earlier.
Pump will run when you turn the key (but not start the engine) for say 20secs then should stop, does it?

You've never known poor brakes unless you've rode a 70's jap bike with discs in the wet..

This morning I took the car up the road, about a mile I stopped and turned the engine off and I could here the pump, I took the keys out and popped the bonnet and it was running but wouldn’t stop so I removed the relay, that stop it I put the relay back in then drove home breaks were soft and the pump hasn’t run since.

How this all started was my abs warning light came on, I checked the sensors and found front driver side sensor had a brake in the cable, I replaced the sensor hoping this would fix the issue, it didn’t I noticed the break fluid was black like Guinness, so I changed the brake fluid and noticed the pump wasn’t coming on, so checked the relay took it apart and found the contacts burnt, bought a new relay fitted it and no pump still. That’s the whole story

Did you bleed the brakes as per RAVE? It's a bit of a faff but has to be right. This may be the issue possibly.

Still got an electrical problem then.
If nothing changed from the other day, when the pump wouldn’t run and now mysteriously it did.
What did you wiggle? Or it’s another break/****tey connection. Ok the pump continuing to run is a bit suspect, I.E it’s burnt out from running all the time, so putting on a new may just do the same thing.


And yes @Flossie the brakes on my Zed are crap in the wet but it was all about go not stopping in them days.
They don’t rust like the good 1s that stop you though.

He's following the correct workshop pages cos I recognise them so hopefully that's all good then.
I'd go back to basics again and bridge the relay to test if the pump still works and you haven't burnt out the new relay.

Sounds more and more like the pressure switch plus perhaps overheated relay contacts now making a poor connection.

If you can get one, replacement is easy. But it needs to be tested before you splash the cash. Some others have found that the same part is used on SAAB and I think a GM model as I don't think it's available from Land Rover. Otherwise it would have to be a breaker.
