The head gaskets has gone on my Range Rover and about to replace them both.
Ive ordered Haynes Manual but I am looking for any threads relating to head removal or any photos. Any advice very much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Just a thought, how do you know the head gasket has gone? Not something I've seen reported before on that engine.

HI
So the coolant level is always low. When I fill up which takes about a litre the car starts to smoke masses of white smoke like its on fire on start up. This goes on until water level drops again and then stops smoking but water level so low the heating only works on full rev.
If you have any ideas what this is other than head gasket let me know as you;d be delighted not to be taking the engine apart.
Thanks
John

I don't know the engine well enough, but some modern engine have water cooled EGR valves that are know to fail.
I'd start by pulling injectors to look for evidence of water ingress.

For work shop manual Have a look in the tech archive top left of range rover home page in there you will find a thread by wazzarjnr, rave micro cat and other downloads .

So now searching online about the EGR valve cooler. Would it be the cooler or the egr valve leaking as not sure. And any ideas how i would check which one is leaking as there are two. ?
thanks

SO
After searching I think the best solution is to fit a egr blocking kit and the just connect the water in and out on the coolers. Does this sound like the easiest option as it seems changing the valve and cooler isn't the easiest of things.
Again thanks in advance

Hi

I believe on those engines Symptoms of a blown cylinder head gasket, fill the water expansion bottle until it overflows and don't fit the cap, start the engine and look for bubbles coming out of the water, if there are bubbles in the water and coming out of the filler one of the head gaskets have blown.

Indeed the egrs are water cooled, see how u get on first to rule out the head gasket

Hi

Crossed posts, lol,

Yes u can do that , u will need a software patch when u disable the egrs because it’s after 2007

Leave the egr pipes in place for mot rules , fit the blank between the engine block and egr pipes, then remove throttle body butterfly

Have got a link somewhere I’ll try and find

Hi
How would i get a software patch ? Thanks for the advice

Ur Very welcome , plenty here to always help , team effort

U need to get a garage to do it for u to add the software patch

Best with these vehicles to buy ur own diagnostics , gap iid pay for themselves very quickly , but need a separate soft ware patch for the egrs
