range rover fails to start

I have a 1996 rr 4.0 v 8 petrol auto, i went to start it on friday morning , unlocked car with key remote, (so far so good) i turned the key all dash lights work no code faults except windows not set (which were set the day before) but nothing the engine did not even turn over it was like the battery was dead , even on trying to start the dash lights did not even dim , alarm works fine key code worked fine , no alarm faults displayed ,no lock out , nothing, i ran a wire from the starter to the battery the engine cranks but will not fire up , ive checked the fuse box that seems fine , all fuses and relays seem ok the box under the drivers seat seems to get a signal as i can hear it clicking . not sure if there is a code problem , has anyone had this problem before, can you help???

if its a full battery or good battery and wont start, providing all the conditions were met to allow it to start i.e in N or P - believe me its been done, by me, left in d and couldnt work out for over 30 mins why it wouldnt start, put it in N pushed to side of road, started fine after a check of wires on battery etc!!!- then i would suggest its lost its sync with becm and may be worth contacting one of the feallas on here with the diagnostic kit!
