Hi i wonder if anyone can help i have a range rover dse it is overheating when i tow my caravan but it does not overheat when not towing i have change radiator thermostat and waterpump i have check all the pipes are clear thanks in advance james

Check for silt in the bottom of the Rad....when the engine is warm, feel the radiator and make sure it is hot all over....

The Diesels use a top flow Rad, with the ingress and egress of coolant at the top. Two things happen, the bottom gets silted up and also there is a baffle in the top chamber to direct the water in and down and not straight across the top...

To check baffle, remove Rad, turn upside down and install a marble into one of the apertures...if the marble rolls out the other side, baffle is dislodged and coolant will not be circulating the Radiator correctly!

Check operation of viscous fan. Also if it is fitted with aircon, that the condensor and coolant radiator are free of debris.

Air lock if you have just replaced water how long have been driving it before you connected the caravan ? Your supposed to check air bleed pipe to explanation tank is clear
first fill up radiator as much as you can.
fill up expantion tank when water has stabilised to its level start car top up until its at its correct level fit cap allow car to warm up and open the thermostat ( check this vai warm passenger side top radiator hose ) when warm stop car allow to COOL top up if nessasery once cold. If still over heating allow to cool top up if nessary start up warm car with cap off and rev @ 2000 Rpm check water top up if nessary

If it has been driving fine all the time since you have change your parts and not over heating on a long drive then more than Likely its your fan not working under load when needed. But as saint said check your baffle inside rad as some new one's have been known to disappear ;)

Hi just to let you know i have pulled out water pump and shaft is bent so i will let you know if that is the problem when i put the new one in

Watching with intetest as i have the exact same problem
Done 2000miles fine put caravan on 50miles and she overheated done 800miles since and fine again
Checked all the usual suspects and cant find anything untoward

Don't waste your time tightening head bolts, if they are not tight the head gasket will be gone and tightening will make no difference.
Most likely problem is the RAD or stat or viscous. If not think cracked head.
