allo i need help:confused: .i have a range rover classic 3.9 v8 i've had the cam followers and push rods clanged a while ago because one of the followers was tapping, the cam was all fine so i left that alone, engine all runs fine with no tapping which is good but i have now noticed what seems to be small amounts of fuel coming out the exhaust when running is this normal. all suggestions would help. thanks stu.

Are you 100% certain it's petrol? I would have thought that you would have had severe backfiring first as the unburnt fuel hit the hot exhaust gasses in the exhaust system from the manifolds back, plus highly unlikely that petrol would be in liquid form after going through a hot engine. What is the conditition of the plugs like? I feel it is probably water from either condensation, head gasket or other internal coolant leak which is being tainted with exhaust gas.

 the plugs were all changed along with the leads and rota arm and cap when the work was done on the engine, i hope the head gasket hasn't gone i'll check the oil filler cap for sludge.

Are you losing any coolant?
Also, do you see where I am coming from regarding the "Petrol" as it is vapourised first and due to it's low flash point, it's impossible to condense back to liquid after going through a warm/hot engine and exhaust system.
Apart from checking the rocker covers for sludge, check the oil level hasn't risen and if needs be,when the engine is cold and has been standing overnight, remove the sump plug for a couple of seconds to see if pure oil comes out. Check the plugs to see if one or more of them looks different-as though it's been in the washing machine.

The V8's make a lot of condensation. On a cold morning I can greate my own fog but it soon clears up once everything has got hot.

Irishrover is right, if you had enough fuel getting into the exhaust system you would probably have blown your exhaust to bits by now. If you want to know what that would sound like wire in a switch to your coil supply, drive down the road and flick it off then on - BOOOOOM! Used to be fun in older cars with carbs, could get some really good explosions but it can get costly having to keep replacing silencers coz you've blown the baffles out of 'em.

The liquid from the exhaust is unlikely to be fuel.
Never ever replace the cam without doing the followers at the same time or vice versa, the old part will just wear out the new one in no time at all &you will have wasted your time & money. And may not cure the original problem.
Don't use anything other than genuine parts rotor arm & dizzy cap on a V8. Cheap pattern parts cause problems.

:amen: A used genuine Lucas rotor arm is better than a brand new pattern one, no really it is. Genuine Lucas rotor arm will set you back about £20.00 or so but anything less than genuine will see you stopped at the side of the road in no time at all. The best I've had from a pattern rotor arm is 1 week:eek: I put in an emergency used Lucas arm that was very second hand and it lasted another 14 months!
