For nothing more than interest, everyone is on about later Range Rovers, but how many of us have got pre P38 vehicles. I have a 1980, 2 door standard apart from electronic ignition, and SU carbs off a Discovery.

93' lse in plymouth blue, looks great if youre more than 50 yds away :D only had it a few months and have a heap of rust to rid from floor and halfway thru replacing all bushes and links underneath. bloody good fun tho although the weight of the thing scares me a bit :eek:
 
I have a '92 RRC 3.9 V8 standard bar bull bars running boards, LPG conversion,and some insa turbo's

tomcat, what do you mean by ready made box sections? do you mean repair cills? i'll probably have to do mine too, got a couple of holes in the ends of cills but the rest of them are not great either
 
I've got a 1988 Classic with a Disco Tdi200 engine. Had it for 18 years now and it's just failed it's MOT on rust on every body mount, so it's parked up in a field and has been replaced by a 1999 DSE.

Still love my Classic tho'.......

Not yet no, i'm looking for a good low mileage 2nd hand box, recon they want between £700-£1600 + VAT!!!

So my plan is to get a good 2nd one, and then attempt a recon on my old one myself

I will get box sections made up then attempt to weld them over the top of what is there, I have also noticed the sill is coming away from the wheel arch:( :rolleyes: Bit of work needed for her next MOT.

Nice car, I like the old two door models. I'd definitely go for a classic rather than P38, just can't afford to run one just now. Maybe one day.
 
I'm not going to say they are cheap but the way I look at it is if you have one no point in complaining about consumption, she is fitted with SU's and electronic ignition now and is running far better no idea about fuel consumption though. If you want one go for it, it's just finding one.;)

that's a proper range rover tomcat:cool: looks good fuel costs are not that ridiculous, mine has lpg too which may offer slightly less performance but does save a few quid when just cruising about or on a longer run. it's worth spending extra for a loved one (and waxoiled) if you can find one! whoever had mine in the past must of been proper tight! i'm in the middle of changing every bush and ball joint underneath as most of them are shot and never been touched, also needs a new boot floor (1 1/2 disco floors as its an lse!) and a few patches here and there but once it's all done it should last for years with a few inches of waxoil.
 
I've spent very little in the 5 years I've had her, and done even less apart from a small amount of welding, the biggest expenditure was an ali top tail gate for over 200 squids, if she lasts another couple of years great; longer even better.:)

Mines a 94 Plymouth blue LSE. Brand new short engine in it with associated new bits, new fuel and power steer pumps and abs modulator. Also a new tranny viscous coupling along with all new steering joints, rear ball joint and radiator overhaul and all new under bonnet [every fluid] hoses.
Just about a full rebuild with a lot of new miscellaneous bits of which there are too many to list but with the diffs, transfer case and auto tranny being untouched, they're running fine.

Apart from a couple of new bags the air suspension has been trouble free.

And not a trace of rust anywhere so it's was worth doing. Lovely to drive and own.
 
There is an unused late 80's example near me dent in the door and problems with the auto box, I have been tempted, luckily I don't see it often or it would be here by now:rolleyes:

i know the feeling, problem is they are cheap enough to be tempted, hence me getting one in the first place!
mine has a fairly new engine too but for some reason it has had a 3.9 put in instead of a 4.2 :confused: as for the rest it does need quite a bit of work but there isn't anything i can't do myself and the parts are pretty cheap, just time consuming sorting it all out but it's worth it as they really are a lot better to drive than i thought it would be
 
ive got a 71 two door , but it looks nothing like Mr tomcat,s :D mines been bobtailed and runs a peugeot 2.4 turbo diesel matched to a LT95 box:) and ive just about reworked everything:rolleyes:
