Hello,

I have a 1994 Range Rover Soft Dash LSE. After being reassembled after (lots of!) welding, I can’t get it to start. I can hear relays clicking but nothing from the starter. I have applied power directly to the starter and it works.

I want to test the starter relay but I can’t find it. Does anyone know where and which one it is?

Thanks.

I think @Western Slope Rover has a soft dash. He may be able to help. Not sure who else has

Check that you have reconnected the starter exciter wire, it is easy to miss this. It is a thin brown wire with a female connector on the end. If you have, make sure that the spade end is clean and bright with no corrosion.

It's mounted with a group of 5 relays under the steering column. It's the furthest to the right and it's yellow. You have to remove the lower dash panel to get to it.

Good luck with getting it going.

Thanks. These are the relays I found (to the right of the accelerator pedal). The yellow one on the right isn’t doing anything when I turn the key.

Those aren't the right relays. The group you're looking for are up higher under the steering column itself. The middle relay is shorter than the two on the right and the left. The one on the left is green, the one next to it is yellow, then a short black relay, and then two more yellow relays. The yellow relay furthest to the right is the starter relay.

Thanks again. I’m having trouble finding the relays. I can’t see any around the steering column, just lots of wires. I found one single black Lucas relay that was loose. Do I need to remove any parts to get to the relays?

Is there any other location they could be in? It’s a RHD UK car if it makes any difference. I looked around the whole area in the picture and couldn’t see any relays.
Thanks.

I have made some progress. Couldn’t find the relays but I had a thought that the immobiliser may be preventing the starter relay from working. I found the factory immobiliser and bypassed it. The engine now turns over.
