Hi guys,

My driver side seat is not working, only the the switch to move it forward works not backwards..so you can imagine that the seat has now crept scarily forward and will not move back.

I know there is some material on this site on the possible things tht could be wrong with it.
Can somebody please either point me in the right direction or perhaps send me a step by step guide as to how I can somehow bypass it so that it moves backwards

Any help will be much appreciated..

Thanks
S

what he said^^^

I took my switch apart but found it full of tiny ball bearings and springs. loads of them. took me ages to get it back together but it was perfect after that.

when other seat switch started playing up i resorted to loads of electric contact cleaner and left the swicth assembled. still works fine

Remove the worm drive cable under the seat and turn it with a drill. This will get your seat where you need it till you get it fixed

I think inability to move the seat fowards/backwards is an MOT fail now.

Faulty switch. Seat moves forwards or backwards because switch reverses polarity of feed. Clean the switch or change it.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the replies. common consesnsus is to clean it with a electrical cleaner.
question i have is where do i spray the cleaner, inside the actual switch after taking it apart? Im being thick but how do i take it apart?

Ive got it out of the case

Pull up on the seat control bits that look like a seat. They'll come off. After those are off, you pry up the cover. Under that is a rubbery looking protective membrane to keep grunge out. Pull that out and you see some openings in the top of the various switches. Spray it into these openings.

Thanks guys
It has memory seats
I have a spare non memory switch do you guys knows if I swap the switch this will work ?

Thanks Datatek,

Where is the ecu located and what does it look like?
Also what battery goes in there?

Thanks

The ecu is a grey box about 6" by 8" and it lives under your drivers seat. It controls the drivers seat and the mirrors. You need to remove the drivers seat to get to it. As long as the seat moves you can get to the bolts in the runners without too much trouble.
As has been said even if the fault is the switch you need to take the ecu out and change the battery as they leak and bugger up the ecu. These ecus are really hard to find in working condition and are therefore expensive.
