Another new feature that was not needed that costs the motorist a bloody fortune.
On the other hand you could get a puncture on a busy motorway. Options are a statutory tow at your cost to somewhere safe where you can fix it, or carry on driving from the scene of the puncture on your drive flat tyre and get it changed at the nearest quick fit. Reckon the second option would be most convenient and cheapest fix. I carry a spare on my landy and also repair plugs and tools, but would still be faced with a statutory tow from a motorway.
 
Got scorpion zero’s on my p38 not run flats will check sizes tomorrow don’t think they fit the new range rovers tho I think the new ones have all got them verdes on them
 
Never had or even looked for such a tyre myself. A flat is a flat, deal with it; spares are there for a reason.

Agreed, providing of course the vehicle is supplied with a spare by the manuf. As for dealing with it I used to change wheels on HGV's decades ago, now it's a call to the breakdown organisation ... that's what I pay a membership fee for :rolleyes:

Some years ago the self repair plug kits were discussed on ere. Someone in the know/trade said they're not approved int UK for road use. Part of the rules of repairing a punctured tyre int UK requires inspection of the inside of the tyre where the puncture is located. Hence the tire needs to at least be partially removed from the wheel.

I carry one of those kits int case I get a puncture oft road and it's easier/cleaner to do a temporary repair so I can get it to a hard surface to change the wheel. That is all.

Regarding run flat tyres... They help keep yer safe on a blow out where total loss of pressure happens suddenly. It's not going to solve all problems but it's designed to aide deflation of said tyre in the hope yer dun't lose it and crash.

Regarding LR main dealers and tyre price... Lr MD price for a 19inch Freelander tyre is £225. Local tire fitters charge £155. That's the same tire and fitted, for price comparison. Continental cross 4x4.

Vehicles whore tyres out that had been repaired with a plug running a lot higher speeds than we see today without a problem. It entirely depends on what punctured the tyre. If you have a slow puncture in the middle three quarters of tread area caused by a nail or screw that has never gone completely flat and been run on, a plug will repair it permanently without a problem. If the object that caused the puncture is still in place and the tyre has been run on then the tyre would need to be inspected internally for damage. Lots of tyre places use the rules as quoted as an excuse to sell you a tyre. Then repair the tyre and sell it as used.
