Hi all!

Can anyone give me 100% positive confirmation that a Rangie chassis and disco 1 chassis are the same, as regards body mounts?

I basically need a chassis under a project 2 door. I don't care about originality as it won't be sold, my rangie chassis is now an 88" and my old man has a rusted out but very good condition chassis wise, disco 1 300 tdi. I know box and engine mounts will need changing, but do body mounts all line up etc? Thank you, it will save me alot of effort cutting the disco up and finding later it's a no go! :)

same chassis

If you have the range shell can you measure all the mounting points?
Then get @dieseldog69 or @resto_d1
To measure these points.

only problem I know of is the filler neck on the body for the tank does not line up. You need to replace with Tdi later range one. Think you need the inner wing for the filler to be modified.
(I think the chassis are the same but I’m rattling my brain for 30+years of memory. All I remember was it had a tubular cross member by the Aframe where they are normally square.

Trouble is rangie shell is stripped of outer bodywork and is on bearers, I've cut the rear body xmember out and both sills are weak as, so mounts aren't necessarily in the correct place! (JM I think posted same time as you and confirmed they are the same) :)

Re filler neck, thanks for that, I'll be able to have a proper gander once body is off disco, we plumb lined the disco chassis and it's nice and square, so can use that as almost like a jig when repairing rangie shell... watch this space.... thanks for your help bud! :)

mount Box section for the sills onto the chassis mounts then put body on then you know what lines up.;)

Looks like a build thread appearing soon:eek:

Haha yeah, I think I promised DD that I'd start one at some point, I have a penchant for allowing things to get me down and I loose all interest!

Now just got to pay Dad for the rotten disco as thats my starting point!! :)

we often used to fit rrc shells on d1 chassis and running gear

That's brilliant to know that it's definitely been done before mate, for peace of mind! Any tips? :) Im planning on keeping the V8 from the Rangie because i think they are so iconic and in my pre-emptive, over eagerness as a just-turned 20 year old I bought a new cam, tappets timing gear, manifold and single barrel carb, before I even had the vehicle running! Sticking with the four speed lt-95 too as its one of the latest ones and has the higher ratios... :)

Was thinking about this earlier - I think Rrc has a a frame damper/gas lift strut but might have dreamt it!
Double check you don’t need a bracket for it

He will use all the new running gear & just pop the range body on top.

them Bose units only keep it level when you put weight in the back.

The RRC had a Boge self levelling strut on the back, no idea if the D1 has the same setup.

D1 springs are quite a bit stiffer than the RRC springs IIRC

Where on earth have I seen that damper thing then lol?!

I’d agree if you use all disco bar body you wouldn’t have an issue would you
