Hello ,

Sindse a couple of months i own a 2001 range p38 2.5dse a.

When i drive even for a long run ,
I notice that the temp gauge never gets to the middle of the gauge .

Even on long highway runs its stays just under the centre of the gauge.

And when crusing afterwords arround town the gauge even drops
a bit down.

Is this normal on a 2.5 dse ?

Or should it be at the center always when run warm ? And do i possibly have a faulty thermostat ?

Thx for any advice

The original? Behr Thompson thermostat in my 1996 P38 diesel failed partly open and gave exactly the same symtoms.

Very rare for a waxstat to fail open. They are closed by spring pressure opened against the spring by expanding wax. If you lose the wax they cannot open, only the spring failing can cause them to fail open. As said, a pretty rare occurrence.

I agree. Was a first for me too. I got a surprise when I found a thermostat in the housing expecting it to be missing. Still after 19 years and 185k miles it was allowed to retire. This car never fails to surprise me.

Same happened to me, but mine was 3 years younger than yours.

I thought he had all his cash stuffed under his mattress? Rumour has it he wasn't around for 2 weeks because he missed the step-ladder getting out of bed and was hospitalised.

No it's not under his mattress, there would not be enough room to get in between the mattress and the ceiling. He has a 20,000 sq foot warehouse to keep it in. :D:D
