Range l322 strange gearbox issue

It won't change heights unless all the doors, tailgate and bonnet are fully closed.
Random pipe is probably the gearbox breather pipe so shouldn't go to anything.

I would say the oil is probably cam cover gaskets, upper timing chain cover gaskets, pcv pipework and vanos solenoid gaskets, that will give you somewhere to look and if it hasn't been done already, while you have the tranny out i would change your pcv valve and pipes as it is right in front of you.
The breather pipe is from the front diff and usually sits under the plastic cam cover. I asked exactly the same question when i got mine.

We also replaced the water manifold gasket as mine had been leaking.

I also think you have to take off the viscous fan to get to to the crank bolt to turn over the engine to align the TC bolts for undoing and tightening so you will need a spanner and holding tool ideally and I changed out the cooler, stat and pipes at the same time which is up the front end. You may be able to get on the crank pulley without removing the fan, have a look when the undertray is off.

+1 on diff breather.
+1 on doing PCV when box is out, it's a pig otherwise.

Your advantage here is Holiday and Bemble, they've got the T-shirt so follow all advice closely and you'll come out on top.

Good luck.

Thanks but Phil has got the T Shirt, the medals, hat, coat , scarf , trousers and matching undies :)
My T shirt is a bit small now and the LT71141 stains on mine have been replaced with Stout

View attachment 134792 @Bemble here is the picture of my tranny plate, many thanks, Pete
Your transmission came off the production line at Saarbrücken on 11th January 2004 so it has all the final upgrades including the ‘350’ valve body assembly and the ‘967’ F-brake piston.

I have all the parts you need for the rebuild in stock. If you’d like me to put a quotation together just PM me with your email address. As you’re only an hour away from me you’d be very welcome to come to collect them, if that fitted in.

With the torque converter, it would be better for you to deal directly with JPAT or Sussex Auto Parts as they’ll want your old one in exchange.

Ahhhh yes of course I remember one of the many things that was replaced before I bought it was the rocker cover gaskets as they were leaking badly! So the oil will probably be the residue from that but will investigate further once she is on the operating table, I guessed the pipe was a breather just wasn’t sure why it was left abandoned so will have to get it tucked away neatly, with regards to the air suspension not going into off road I had the engine running and all doors closed it just flashes and doesn’t move at all but will happily go between low and normal settings, also it won’t come out of low range, well it does... but it doesn’t THINK it has, the little Lo light on the dash keeps flashing even though it has engaged high range its only when you turn the engine off and restart that it realises it’s back in high range.. thanks for the info on other parts to replace while the box is out...... this list just keeps getting longer lol, Phil has kindly said he will supply the parts so have pm’d him for prices! It’s all getting very exciting... wow..... I really need to get out more!!!

Phil, Don't you keep the TC in stock anymore ?
I'm sure the man wouldn't mind getting one from you and covering the two courier costs and your bit on top and then collect the lot from you in one go once the old one is out.
Just an idea.

Phil, @Bemble if you do indeed hold the TC in stock I would be happy to collect the lot from you, cheers Pete

Unfortunately, I don’t have any 260mm F38 converters in stock at the moment, only the 280mm L51 for the 4.6 M62 engine. More often than not the re-manufacturer doesn’t keep a stock of them either and they rely on rebuilding the actual unit that you send to them which they then return to you. I used to keep at least a couple sat on the shelf and available the whole time but after a couple of the cores failed (they sometimes ‘burst’ during the re-manufacturing process) I’m presently left with none, until I can stock up again.

Fair one, Sussex asked me if i wanted a refurbed one off the shelf and then send mine to them or if i wanted my own one refurbished and returned which is what i went for as I felt more comfortable knowing mine had already been in my vehicle.

Will get in touch with Sussex and see what they have, if they have one on the shelf I may go down that route as I will get it back quicker that way
