hello all.

I'm writing here on behalf of my parents, who aren't that familiar with forums etc. Unfortunately i'm not that familiar with Landys, so here goes:

They had a mid-90's R Rover which kept developing a fault: as i understand it electric components such as interior lights etc would come on randomly (in a poltergeist styly) when there was no-one in the car. This would drain the battery, to the point where the alarm would start going off etc! there were lots of cases of this and eventually due to the embuggerance, they swapped the vehicle for a slightly newer one, a late 90's R Rover.

Lo and Behold, similar things are happenning with the new vehicle. They have been on to Land Rover who have advised that "someone nearby might be slamming a van door, which might be messing with things"! (surely not!) or that there is a powerful transmitter in the area which is messing with it. Both seem pretty unlikely but has anyone else had similar experiences.

Apologies for the lack of specific information here but thought i'd give it a go, as it's driving my folks mad and they have forked out a fair bit of cash trying to sort it

Any responses greatly appreciated, and i'll try to get them up to speed with the forum!

Welcome to the site LeSter, sounds like you may have the common Rf Receiver problem, try using search above for "Rf Receiver or "Flat Battery". Its usually the alarm/BECM switching on/off, happy reading...

PS. its easily fixed, just costs 150.00 quid...

have a look through Range Rover P38/4.0/4.6 Common Problems and Fixes Check all the links on the page as I have seen on one of them - title 'mysterious battery drain' - that someone in Yorkshire didn't have a problem until his neighbour got a wireless broadband internet connection

Also see tommo's post about rf problems. Tells where the receiver is. If you disconnect it & the problem stops then you've solved it - perhaps without spending £150:eek:

Thanks for the prompt and useful responses.

i have passed this on to my parents and it seems to be the probable culprit, they are going to have a read through the posts and fiddle with a few things.

It seems that my dad is getting addicted to the site and may even register, go gentle on him!

if yr dad hasn't had many problems he's prolly best staying away from here, it may be bad for his health if he reads all the troubles on here!!! lol!!!!!
