Radio Water Ingress

Hi Chaps,
2001 P38 with a problematic radio. When the cars been washed or after heavy rainfall the radio cuts out after 5/10 minutes for the next 3 or 4 days. The CD and tape still work though. It will cut back in temporarily sometimes when going around a corner or braking sharply. Seems like water is interfering somewhere but no idea where. When it has cut out and I push the off button it sounds like a rocket firework going off in the speakers.

And it only does that when the radio is on?

Have you pulled the radio out and had a look behind it?

Have had the radio out and all looks ok behind. When it does cut out all goes quiet but you can turn the volume upto max and just about hear a tinny radio. When you turn off thats when you hear the squealing in the speakers like a rocket going into the distance.

The only thing I can think of if it only does when it's rained and it only affects the radio is water ingress at the aerial mounting.

You've got a leak!!

If it's the same set-up as mine the radio aerial is in the glass of the rear right window. Have a nose behind the trim on the right hand side of the boot.
