Is there an easy way to fit a radio in a Disco without it sitting 80mm above the centre console? can it be angled, or is it just one of those things?

Silly of me. I should have said it is a Disco 1. Do you need to know the engine and body type? It is a 200TDi.

the 300 series has the radio high in the dashboard, the 200 series it's down by the gear stick.

Calling all 200 series ICE experts..???

thats it - someone has replaced the radio down by the gear stick and it sticks up into the cab by about 3 inches or so.
I think the original must have been smaller, but is there anything that can be done with a new radio, apart from putting an original one back? I dont have the original and am happy with this one except that it looks awful.

Its the same on the up to 93 range rover, the radio itself wasn't shorter but the security cage that hold it in place was.theres just a standard rover radio/cassette in my rangie from a rover 216 and i had the cut the cage down to 1/2 its size to get it to sit right down in place.

changed mine last week, 17 goes to avoid getting the multiplugs jammed between the radio back and the tunnel. eventually it just slotted in with a good slam and a hell of a lot of cursing:D

yup, it fits if you make sure there is nothing impeding the back of it, its hard going but if you persevere it will go .also, make sure your aeriel has the 90 degree connector on it rather than the straight one, this makes it easier

oh damn, now you tell me. still works so sod it:D

feckin ball ache of a job on these, mine has been like that for about 18 months but i just bought a new head unit so i was gonna try and do a proper job, wouldnt mind but when i bought it ti was fitting snug but it was when i took it out to fit me sub and amp the had no chance of going back in properly then, so you think i should cut the cage down???

I fitted one in mine and the easiest way to do it is to remove the plastic trim and fit the radio in it's opening then cut away the sound proofing on the tunnel. fit 90deg aerial (As Yella said) and refit trim/housing keeping wiring harness/connector block & aerial connector well out of the way. It fits no problem then.

The plugs are a pain in the arse but i found on the rangie theres a sort of "cut out" under the consle where the back of the radio needs to sit and with the longer cage it sent the radio into the dash on a slightly different angle causing it to miss the cut out.If that makes sense:confused:

Fitted decent high powered CD in my 200tdi and it heats up and buckles the CD's! Am now moving unit to top of dash to save me a lot of money on new CD's.

regards

Dave
