Hi Guys

New on board, so firstly would just like to say hello

Having a bit of a problem with my radio.

to cut a long story short, I went to replace the original with an alpine head unit, only to find out that the wires and sockets etc were completely different to the fittings on the back of the alpine.
so, decided that id get it done by somebody who knows what theyre doing, as I dont have the foggiest. so i re-connected the original, put it all back in (note the radio was working fine before), turned the ignition on and up came 'CODE' on the digi screen.
Not having it handy or knowing it, i just punched in '1111'.. and nothing happened. Tried pressing and holding other buttons and still nothing happens and it seems like its frozen or something.

Ive tried taking it back out, disconnecting it, turning the ignition on and off and the unit on and off, disconnecting it and re-connecting it, but nothing seems to be working and still its coming up with the 1111's and appearing asthough its frozen.. ?

anybody know what I should do?? I do have the original code here in my log book, on its original credit card thing, so wont have to go contacting LR HQ.
I have read something about having to leave the ignition and radio on for 1.5 hours or something, somewhere, so would i have to do this?

Ive also read that button 1 and holding it down for 5 seconds (although im quite sure ive probably already done this) solves/re-sets it too and that it'll go back to 'CODE', so that I can re-enter the correct one.

any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

going slightly crazy listening to myself!

Regards,

Joe

You owners handbook will explain entering a code but how you do it depends on the head unit, some have a time out that starts at 2mins and doubles for each incorrect code ie 2, 4, 8, 16mins and so on so you must leave the unit switched on untill CODE reappears, if that is what your unit says.

Check your book... But basically you will need to leave the unit powered on until it clears and allows you to re enter the code...switching from key position 2 to 3 apparently is an interruption... Rather than have a potential flat battery go for a drive (mine took 1hr25mins) before it allowed me to put the code in. When i spoke to a landie audio man he advised once the 'code' word appears just press the code, number after number until its in and disregard anything that comes on the screen as it may be spurious or total bollox in relation to what you are actually doing.

Hi Guys

Joe

I had one lock up through entering the wrong code too many times, you've only got so many bites at the cherry. Had to get it decoded in the end.

Also, depending who has decoded it, you sometimes only get one attempt. ie one wrong code locks the radio immediately.

There is a way of making them so there's no code at all, which practically is a lot handier.
