Yesterday the radiator on my P38 (2.5 DSE) went bang. When we opened the hood we couldn't believe what we saw. The black plastic top section of the rad had just split wide open along it's whole length.
There was no prior warning, the water was topped up the day before so it wasn't a case of lack of the wet stuff. The temp indicator was showing it's normal temp (just around the half way mark). There was no excessive load going onto the engine (normal driving conditions, around 19ºC ext temp), the air-con was not on.
Anyone got any idea what could have caused this to happen?
Has anyone had the same happen to them?
As the part that has split is, as I said, the black plastic top part of the rad and after taking a good look at it looks as if it's just clamped onto the main rad body, I was wondering if that can be bought on it's own or is it going to be a case of having to buy a complete rad?
Any help would be grateful,
Phil
