My radiator on my TDI 300 recently blew a hole in the front. I replaced it but , since then I have noticed that the radiator remains cold even after a run. The temperature gauge moves up to and stays on half way, the expansion tank is warm. The hose from the top hose from the rad to the thermostat is hot and the water pump is hot too. The bottom hose from the rad is also warm. I have noticed also that there is slight coolant leak from the expansion cap.
I don't know if there is pressue build up in the system and therefore the cap is doing its job releasing pressure if it peaks above 15psi , or if it's not working at all and just releasing all pressure?
When I turn the engine off I do hear slight hissing from the expansion cap. I don't think there is and air lock in the coolant system as I've took the caps off and squeezed all the hoses until the bubbles go.
I live in Madagascar so getting my hands on pressure testing kits is difficult? The radiator thing has me beat?
Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!
Cheers!
Andy
