The radiator on my defender 90 200tdi needs replacing due to the fins perishing & though I thought I’d found a compatible one online, when my husband went to a physical store to compare prices, they suggested you had to buy the whole unit rather than the radiator only. Difference being £700+!!

Part the shop suggested: NTC4893
Part I found that paddock spares says is compatible: BTP1823S

Is there a particular reason I can’t buy the radiator only ?

Any guidance greatly appreciated - as you might be able to tell, I’m not usually involved in mechanics!!

Britpart 200tdi radiator will fit and has been fine on ours. You will need to reuse the original adapters where the oil cooler pipes attach to the rad, most likely.

Excellent that’s what I thought, but the chap in the unnamed shop wasn’t keen on giving any tips that meant we didn’t buy the £800 whole unit!! Thankyou!

You should get one for around £140 delivered. That’s just the rad though. The steel frame around it is a separate part.

Definitly name the shop!

As above, just the rad is fine and you can fit it in the frame yourself. Just be aware as also mentioned above you will need to remove and reuse the il cooler adapters.

While on radiators is there any need to upgrade them? When towing recently i get I was getting a little hotter than I would have liked. Rad is getting older but is not old (10 years maybe). I’m going to start with a coolant flush. But is a standard rad fine for all usage or is an higher capacity one worth while?

I’ve never had any issues with my 200tdi while towing, and I removed the fan years ago !!
Talking about rads made me do a search and I’m surprised that I could get an aluminum rad for about the same price as a standard one. I’m not too sure on how the quality is though.
