Following on from my questions on water pumps yesterday and quick trot to the garage today for a look on the ramp it would appear that my exactly 13 month old radiator to the day has failed and is leaking out of the bottom. Which in some ways makes me feel better that the water loss is not terminal but damn annoying that the part I replaced last year as preventative maintenance has failed.

I was pretty sure the rad I fitted had a two year warranty but I can't find anything that proves that, having spoken to the original supplier they were skeptical as well.

So as usual its looking like muggins here who is going to get stiffed for a new rad and the labor to fit it.

Does anyone have any advise as to which is the best radiator to get which will hopefully last a little longer than 30 days outside of the warranty! For a 99 Thor engine'd 4.6 btw

Cheers going to try and get it replaced under warranty but knowing ecp's reputation I have not got my hopes up.

Really annoys me that I'm going to have to foot another labor bill as well.

Depends how bad it is and where it's leaking from.

Well that's that... Complete refusal to offer any assistance towards the parts or labor. Totally disgraceful even had the cheek to tell me that radiators can just go wrong 400k miles and never had one leak in anything! But then went on to tell me that it's very rare one of theirs fails... So I said well surely you'll be keen to replace the one that has failed...

I'll have to crack out the review writing tool

Euro car-parts don't give a monkey's. I hate the sods.

My son in law has a garage and will not deal with Euro car parts anymore. They sent him the wrong parts for a car THREE times in one day. When they got the correct parts they would not deliver because it was too late. One unhappy customer and a ramp blocked.

Plus they are bloody expensive if you are Joe public.

If you have got to use Radweld then don't use the liquid one, use the "dog turd" type. Motor factors will know what you are asking for.;):)

I havn't got to use it, but I don't know whether to give it a try and see if it sorts it.

Just massively annoyed that the rad I changed for preventative maintenance has failed 2 weeks out of warranty. Just feels like an unnecessary kick in the teeth to have to pay for it to be done all again!

I suppose there's nothing lost is there? Any implications of a tin of it in damaging anything else?

Would you think its worth a try?

Providing your system is otherwise fit and clean, also providing it is administered correctly it will do no harm.

Have you still got the old one? as it was changed for maintenance (?) I guess it wasn't leaking. Stick it back on if you have it.:)

No I havnt the garage that fitted the new one binned it. The old one that wasn't leaking did have a weird repair on the top of it which is why we changed it really. Likes liked somone had broken a pipe of it and then glued it all back on.

Well I bit the bullet and gave some K Seal a try, early indications show that its done the trick and I now no longer have an incontinent radiator.

How long it will last I'm not sure but after speaking to a mechanic friend and the advice on here I figured it was worth a try. If it leaks again I'll just have to fit another "new" radiator.

I have left some card board underneath the old girl to make sure she doesn't leak anymore and then I think a little trip to the lakes and a check to see if we loose any coolant is the next test!
