Hi all,

I'm thinking about putting a R770 head unit in the Freelander, which I believe then uses the clock display to show the various bits of info. Does this also need to be changed or is the display the same across all F1 models?

I've just tried googling using different search terms and it looks like there are two displays.

YFB100380 is the clock display
XQH100102 is the clock & radio display

Looks like unless I find one from a scrapper then I'll not bother

Hi all,

What radio do you have already?

If it's a basic LR radio, then why not just fit an aftermarket one? You will then get more advanced features like CD, Bluetooth and maybe even DAB. ;)

The original (I think it was a Sony) had a CD player slot, but it broke and despite trying I cannot even find a picture of it on the web, let alone say what the model was. So that was replaced by an aftermarket one which has been a steaming turd for a while. For some daft reason I fancied having something looking a bit more OEM, hence the R770. I just use the radio, no real interest in Spotify and all that guff. One of those tinsel things I guess.

What year is the vehicle, I assume it's a pre-facelift?

Phillips made most of the factory radios (called a Head Unit or HU for short) on the pre-facelift FL1.

They should be plentiful in scrap yards, but are often expensive, which is why I'd fit a better feature unit, probably for a similar cost.

The Facelift FL1 had Vestion or Becker made HUs, but those had integrated displays, so didn't use the clock as the display.

FL1, registered September 2000. A little frustratingly I can't find the old head unit otherwise I'd stick a pic up, but it's definitely not the R660 fitted to most models. You're right that just having a new single DIN would work out slightly cheaper but I'd only start looking at better speakers, then better cabling, then an amp...... :p:D

Well, the original HU has been found and it's this:

I was wrong in thinking it was a Sony as it's a Blaupunkt, but Google says this was fitted to FL1s and Defenders. A bit strange there is no mention at all in the handbook.
Predictably there is no code in there or on the unit. I'd guess it could be found from the serial number or some such ways.
