Has anyone had the bearing in the input housing go or a bearing spinning in the housing and can describe the noise? Think mine is on the way but difficult to test. Sounded like a chattering relay at first but it’s definitely coming from the tunnel area. No other symptoms, drives fine.

It could be a relay in fuse box in front of gear lever over bell housing. Or parking brake, try very gently applying the hand brake a very slight amount while moving to see if chattering stops. It may also be a prop shaft UJ chattering.

that’s what I thought but I took all but the main one out while driving along and the noise continued. Also swapped that relay. It can be heard from outside the vehicle too. I also drove the vehicle on a ramp with the wheels off the ground and no noise

more likely the layshaft bearing race if either, was quite common on the j suffix boxes with both
does the clutch alter it

the clutch doesn’t seem to affect it massively, it does it less when it’s coasting our of gear/with the clutch in.

I read something about spinning bearings before and it does seem like that

it was an issue with the j suffix boxes hence input bearing was greatly increased in size and the outer race fitted tighter in the housing, check your oil level and for contamination

I changed the oil on Friday to see and the level was fine. The oil was a bit glittery but nothing out of the ordinary

here’s a video of the noise!

possibly a dry uj or catching flange mud shield, any other info

You thinking not gearbox? UJ’s are well greased and only a few months old, Hardy Spicers direct from Bailey Morris too (BM52/3 - TVC100010) so I’d be amazed if they have failed already. I will look at the mud shields though, one flange was replaced when I put it back to standard height and took the double cardan prop off.
