Sorry guys another bone question.

Is there any difference between a defender and discovery R380 gearbox? If so what?

One is long stick the other is short stick,

Cant remember which one is which,

Think Long is Disco,

Either way use ATF dextron 3 over MTF94

Selector shaft and yolk, but both can be changed to suit spec. Or ashcroft do a yolk adapter so you can use defender top.

So I take the top (gear sticks) and the bell housing off of my defender box and fit it to a disco box, is it that simple?

Not quite. The difference between the two is the selector shafts are different lengths, and the selector yolk is also different. As such the defender top housing will not bolt straight on top of a disco box.
So you have two options.
Change the selector shaft and yolk to defender spec. About £100 for both last time I checked, but isn't really a diy job as it's means stripping the gearbox.
Or buy the adapter yolk from Ashcroft I mentioned earlier. About £90, which just fits in nice and simple.
