R380 disco into a defender

I have strpped my 87 2.5td defender 90 & and im going to fit a 300 tdi engine gearbox & axles

but im having some issues getting the R380 with transfer box in & sitting nice,

The box is the longer bell housing with a ascroft transmissions adapter for the selector.

At first I tried fitting it onto the standard gearbox mounts on the chassis - no go

then we tried using the disco cross member & mounts - no go
I then gave up because I was tired & hungry
I have considered using the 2.5td mounts but just moving them slightly??

anybody done this before like to shed some light

presumably your moving engine

The engine will naturally move forwards due to the longer bell housing

box will fit either as lt77 or a couple of inches further forward as r380 depending on which mounting you use

we couldn't get it to fit like the lt77? as the t box was hitting the front of the seat box??

not if you use lt77 mounts in lt77 chassis position it wont , if you fit in r380 position it will as it sits 2 inches further forward so seat box is cut and wider tunnel used to cater for t/box

sorry if im being stupid here but we took the mounts off the lt77 and fitted them to the R380 & tried to fit it on the original chassis mounts for the lt77 &it wouldn't fit?? am I missing something??

you must be , it should fit

ok I will give it another try & report back?? hopefully im just missing something

maybe a few pics of the difficulty

im a nobber it fits??
