That in picture is just the selector box on top of the box. You could spray with some degreaser and wipe out with paper towel and repeat until clean.

Yeah sorry I just realised I thought there was a little passage into the gearbox didn’t realise it was sealed

OK, just clean it out but don't flood it.
It also depends on what it is that you can see in the pic that you are trying to clean out? If it is grime/water/oil all mixed together then as above just clean out and wipe down, however one of mine the PO had liberally applied grease to the area, no filled it, but given everything a good covering, which I just left in place as I couldn't see it doing any harm and if you clean it out next time you take it apart the are will have a thin layer of gearbox oil in it anyway, it will not stay clean and pristine.

I’ve done it now it’s all good , it was stagnant water and clumps of mud and there was also little stones on there.
I don’t expect it to be pristine it was just stopping me from getting into gear correctly as it was that full
