I have wanted a Land Rover since i was a kid, and now i have a little money to spend on one, I can't wait to buy.
Only problem is that I do not know a great deal about them yet
I know i want the series III, and so far have decided that i would like an LPG conversion, possibly a 2.25 engine and a galvanised chassis.
I also need forward facing rear seats that i can strap a child seat in for my 3 year old boy who alsoloves land rovers.
I have around £5000 to spend and a possible part ex on a Kia Picanto.
This will be my full time car when i get it.
Any helpfull hints and sugestions would be welcome.
Cheers

The more that is already done to it the better in relation to the chassis,LPG,Seating etc, but i do realise that for the price i will be carrying out some of the work myself.

Also, having never driven a series, any tips?
I have driven a defender 110 at an off road event but the instructer dealt with the diff controls.

Hi R-tron,

:welcome2:

Is there any chance you can find someone near you and ask if you can go out for a drive in their series III.

The driving experience can be 'interesting':)
I've had a few series IIa and each one had their own quirks and the ability to suddenly develop major faults without warning.

Good luck with your search.

Linda

Major faults like what??

Out in the middle of nowhere the clutch went, various sudden oil leaks and pipes and other bits coming adrift, spewing fuel everywhere...

In my experience all the series lla's I had needed attention - some needed more, some needed less. I think it's part of their character and they're great fun.

Well we got one.
She is a 1974 2.25 petrol (engine taken from a defender)
nut and bot restoration 13 years ago and looks magnificent.
Will post pictures soon.
She recently won runner up in a classic car show and is now sitting on my drive leaking oil onto the slabs.

About them oil leaks?
The back diff box is dripping, an this be fixed or do they all do it?
I think i need to check the levels before i take it far.

Also might be worth learning to change gear without the clutch and double declutching (double clutching)

(not as hard as it sounds)

As for the leaks, if not excessive there's a saying "it's a Land rover"
