just about to order the 12500 winchmax winch for my 110 and having a closer look into it i have noticed it comes with a weather proof cover and the warrenty does not cover submersion. this leads me to belive i couldnt do deep water with this winch fitted and thats no good to me. is this just something with all winches and it will be fine in water or should i go for a different winch?

When I looked into winches it seemed to me that until you pay a fortune for a fully waterproof 'guaranteed' one, then if you plan wading with it on you need to properly prepare it beforehand.

This generally means taking it apart and re-building it with decent grease, quality seals and extra sealing inside and outside.

You then also need to maintain it ... ;)

'course there are loads of people who will just slap one on, do whatever, and it will never fail on them. I'd rather not take the chance, 'cos I know if there's a river crossing or deep water-splash, I'll go through it!

yeah i have to admit paul i had to take my truck to work yesterday, swindon to salisbury, and i was nearly 3 hours late after exploring a 'puddle' that i found ;-) dont seem to be capable of resisting a good splash. although that day did nearly leave me on my roof, change of pants when i got to work

Heheh, I've had a couple of wades with clench factors ... ;)

really must learn the limit and when to call it quits, or atleast take the belt off and open the window.

failing that i could learn to think before i do!!

get a tirfor.Runs under water, doesnt drain yer battery(well it does but a mars bar will recharge it), pulls in any dirctions, fits any vehicle-or every vehicle if yer move it from ca to car.....get a tirfor

is this one of the cheapies off ebay? cos if it is I got one and the solonoid pack IS NOT WATERPROOF, i got round it by filling the box with the solonoids with molten candle wax (grease is just as good) this cools and forms a waterproof "blob" of wax - old sparky mate of mine told me about this and it works just as good as filling with resin witha plus side that it dont take a lot of warming up if you need to work on the solonoids at all

Only trouble with that is you need to take care where you place the solenoid pack. It doesn't take much heat to start wax moving, so If possible it'd be better having some cool airflow over it ... ;)

well i took a chance and ordered it, should be here tomorrow or saturday. im thinking i can just take off the solenoid pack and lengthen the wires so its inside the cab, no?

the winch motor and etc should be fine in water then shouldnt it??
