decided to cange my sump gasket on my 2.5 n/a as thats where the leak is. drained, dropped the filter off, dropped all the bolts out of the sump and it wont come off.

it falls away from the engine but it wont come free. all faces are free but i think the oil pump? is holding onto it in the middle. is this suppose to happen? i had the vision of it just dropping off nicely ow dear. if i cant get it off, im bolting it back up and be done with it!

How far does it "fall away" from the engine Griff?

ow i dunno 5-6inches if you keep it level. it rocks back an forth on the bottom part of the oil pump... i dont want to "give it the beans" incase i break something is this a normal thing for sump removal? i may just tighten it all back up and be done with it! its getting dark!

AFAIK the oil pump int attached to the sump - it's attached to the block inside the sump.

5 to 6 inches is a fair bit - you're sure you ain't got a dent in the sump that would cause it to foul on the way out?

it dont look dented. but yer, i know what you mean. the oil pump isnt attached to the sump, but it bloody feels like it! may go back out for a play now, just wanted someone to make me feel better cheers. will come back with my findings later...

thanks adz no need to worry now, i had another fiddle and it came off. i guess it was the pick up disco. does it expand when hot? vos it came off real easy when i went back out 45min later. i didnt realise the inside of the sump had a drain plate type thing. thats why the pick up was hooking up on it.

applied new gasket and hylomar to both sides and torqued up the 21 bolts in the dark! refilled with fresh oil and put a ply board underneath to see if i leaks over night.

if i find 6litres of fresh oil on my driveway tomorrow im going to be very upset! will top up and check levels tomorrow. cheers guys
