I'm in the process of looking for a Landy mainly for towing my boat. I won't be using it for off roading just towing a couple of times a month.

I'll be fitting a galvanised chassis to it at a later date but was wondering how long I should expect the galvanised chassis to last with regular cleaning.

9 years 3 months and two days

if you paint it, it will last longer....

roughly another 5 years, 6 months and about a week more

unless you keep painting it occasionally that is :) then it could last until it rots from the inside unless it's waxoiled regular, then it will last till the end of time itself (probably ) :D

my 110 has lasted since 1986 on a non galv chassis with no welding , and have been told that galv doubles the life so that would be about 2068 then :D

On that basis we've got a 1949 chassis still going strong (minor patching) painted but not galvanised or waxoyled... so... on that basis, if you paint a normal one it will last over 64 years... doubled for galv. = 128 years...?

If you are using it for towing and launching your boat, especially in sea water, make sure that the insides of your chassis rails are well protected, otherwise it will rot from the inside out, and galv will not be any protection from that!

Plug up all the chassis holes and fill it with the dirtiest, mankiest, crappiest oil you can find, then run it for a couple of weeks, drain off the crap and repeat annually!

The oil you've drained off can then be used to paint or spray onto the externals.

We do ours every 6 months or so as we launch a couple of times just about every week!

There's a fair chance the galv chassis will outlast the world's oil supplies. Hmm, anyone got any ides on how to convert my old series to hydrogen?

It already tries to convert itself into Ferrous Oxide and Aluminium Oxides, so why would you want to convert it into Hydrogen? :your_wrong:

However, some have been converted to run off propane (LPG) :D

The propane will run out when the oil does! how about methane - that's sustainable.
