Know there are some very knowledgeable members here and wondering if I may pick ur brains please

With an engine, running I’ve read posts where some have unplugged the injectors to try and establish a noise , I always thought that was a No,no

When there unplugged can the piston actually hit the injectors

Would it matter if it’s a V or inline engine plse

Apologise asking a daft questions, just been reading and didn’t know the answer so thought I would ask the guros here

Cheers , I did wonder why some done that, so it’s to see by disconnecting them one by one u can see if it makes a difference on each cyl

I always thought it was a no no pulling the injector leads with the engine running

Every day is a school day and that’s why I always like to ask questions to get a better understanding

Nah she'll be fine, on old tractors i've found a dead or misbehaving injector just by placing my finger on the pipe just above them, you can feel the "pulse" and any irregularity can be felt..

Cheers , was just curious where I read that a piston can hit and injector , personally never heard of it

Did once hydrolock my old company diesel van, engine did sound like a bucket of nails , oooooops , my boss wasn’t to pleased

I've seen a hydrolock situation from a badly leaking injector, bust the rings and lost compression, so there is an element of surprise with diesels

'twas an old DI ford unit with original 33yr old injectors so, well past it

I'm giving it a good redo at the moment, it's coming out of a transit pickup and going into a Nice camper a Buddy of mine has

Depends on the type of injector fitted - piezo crystal injectors do not like being disconnected with engine running as they can expand and crack - these type of injectors are fitted to TdV6/TdV8 engines

Many thks and in the last 3 x years since owning the D3 have been trying to learn as much as I can on the TDV6

It's not recommended, as the injector drive electronics need a load. If there's no load on the drive capacitors, then it's possible for the energy stored in them to back feed onto the ECU. It's not likely, but is it worth taking a chance on an expensive ECU?

Also reconnecting the injectors with the engine running can cause damage to the injectors themselves.
