Hi everyone,
Me & some friends are in the early stages of planning a week long trip, but are finding in very difficult to find any off-road routes, any help would be great,
Thanks, weeAl

yer its not easy.

very few routes in the Pyrenees, maybe a couple of days. Far more in the French Alps but better still the Italian Alps. You could do worse than reading my trip report and following my trail :)

happy hunting.

depends what you mean by off-road; there's htis in the french alps;

Bienvenue sur le site du Club 4x4 des Aigles Val d'Isère Tignes

it you just want green/brown lanes, there is quite a lot in french/Italian alps, however, in the pyrenees, there is shed loads of lanes.

I've been there a couple of times, it can easily take a week from Andorra up towards the french/spanish coastal border.

have a quick look at these;

Landtreks - Home

we generally just plan and go ourselves.

Thanks for all the help and hints guys. Have since bought some 1:50 maps, am on the hunt on e-bay for a gps, have google earth on my laptop and come the end of July will just go and hope for the best, after all isn't that what it's all about! Hopefully I'll make it back, only question is when, went backpacking for a year in my early twenties and returned to the UK three years ago aged 32!

To put it politely, rubbish. There are Cathar routes that will take you three or four days, do your research. Even the old col routes are still open and a challenge for you, definitely L-R only,use french L-R mags to get best info.

The OP was asking for info on routes as it was "difficult to find". I stated that routes were hard to find, I could only find a few days worth after scouting around and settled on the Alps because route finding info is much easier to come by.

you can go on about French magazines all you like, but we dont get them here nor do I speak/read French. Coupled with the fact that nearly everyone in the UK has some sort of commercial interest (tours etc). obtaining info is very difficult and most folk tend to 'stump up' the cash and go with a guide.

I suggested the Alps because I have been there and you can follow my route, does it get any easier than that?

If you have no knowledge of french then you are going to be in the .....on either suggestion,les flics are not very tolerant of people wandering through forbidden areas. As for french mags, Land publishes a route a month with tulip diagrams and Lat/Long, if you cant read them go buy a Yugo.

All areas I researched were and still are legal. The other half speaks French/Italian (myself, German/Russian) so no problems there. It comes back to the fact that we still dont get french magazines here. feel free to send me a copy so I can look at the roadbooks. who said I couldn't read tulip diagrams? :confused:

you can stop your egotrip now :rolleyes:

Ego trip over! You can get "land" on line. Will send you old ones having scanned the routes out of them if you say where. Seriously, part of aggro is towing idiots who are un-prepared for what there`re doing, seems mainly to be L322`s,if I can tow them with P38, how daft are they? Try keeping a straight face when a Parisien asks how to air-down his tyres and why........

Hi, not wanting to Hijack the thread, but is there an off road guide to the Italian Alps that anyone knows of... or Garmin routes or POI's..?

Many thanks in advance, David ~

Are you actually considering driving your landy all the way there? That's interesting. I seriously give it some thought before I decide whether or not to make a 100 mile trip in mine. :D

Will a gaylander do 100 miles without the doors falling off ? :p

and besides isn't 100 miles to the Alps a tad optimistic, or do you know a shortcut :D

If I didn't think mine would do 100miles... I'd be getting rid of it or fixing it. Want's the point of a vehicle that you can't trust? I suspect the 100miles was possibly a typo and was supposed to be 1000 miles.
