Purple and blue wire and high mounted brake light

I don't know if the door was replaced or not, it's not mentioned in the service history, but it's ex-MOD so who knows. I thought the wiring might be more straightforward if it came out of the factory with the third light/mount fitted, but I've no idea what I'm talking about. I've ordered the third light anyway.
 
This seems to be the case in France - no third light, no MOT.
As said above, if the vehicle was not fitted with a 3rd brake light in factory then you don't need it.
However pretty sure it would be alright to fit one on an older vehicle as it would make it safer.
My RRC 3rd brake light fell off when one of the brackets bust, best replacement for me was an LED about twice the size, no trouble getting a pass.
I have seen defenders over here with extra rear light fittings off a trailer board mounted on the back of the roof, gives indicator/hazards as well as brakes.
