I'm currently finishing off a series restoration and it has no modifications except for a galv chassis. I'm hoping to restore my 200Tdi 90 next and then I recon I'd like to have a go at making something quite out of the norm.

I have been looking into EV's (electric vehicles) and recon it would be great to have a crack at converting a series 88 or a 90 to electric power. Has anyone had a go at this before? Has any one got any usefull knowledge? I know there are one or two converted Land Rovers in the US but have not yet found anyone that has tried it in this country.

Are there any opinions for or against this idea??

i have seen a few in the usa but none in the uk.
the landy is a good base cause of its load carrying capacity, hence carrying the weight of the batterys.
the down side is the weight of the bare landy. maybe better using summat like a reliant kitten as the base chassis?
the yanks can supply some great motors and controllers. dont know any uk suppliers though.

bear in mind after all the work, you will be driving approx 50 miles before you require a 12 hr recharge!
then a complete set of new batterys after about 3 yrs!
good luck.

I'm also looking into solar recharge and that regenerative braking. Recon I can push the range up a fair amount. More like 100mile. The mechanics look very simple so sus-out and I recon even with battery changes it would still pay for itself in no time!!

as a result of some colateral thinkin between me and yella we reckon wot you need is a ex-mod 27.5kva genny to tow behind yer leccy landy
