Puma - power failure. Any ideas??

Hi, guys.

Brand new member, brand new Puma (90 hard top). Love this vehicle truly:), madly :p and deeply :eek:.

The fact that the rear demister doesn't work and that the door seals aren't properly fitted is just ... charming. However, took brand new car (i.e. week old) on drive to Bournemouth and, about an hour into the journey, the power died away. It did it several times thereafter. It came back reasonably quickly, but not before we had gone down from 55 to 15 mph and ****ed off half of the south of England.

Its pretty clear that the turbo just died away and then came back, eventually.

No changes in the revs, engine temperature, no warning lights. Didn't seem to be linked to any particular speed or gear change or road conditions.

Land Rover Assist came out and found ... nothing wrong.

Did it on the way back, too, so it is real. Obviously going to warranty the **** out of this, but does anyone have any idea what it might be? Have I bought an expensive metal shed that I can't rely on?

Any thoughts from those that know (or might reasonably guess) would be much appreciated.

why bother sorting it yer self?
Its new take it back, get it sorted.End of.
 
If it keeps happening you have a dangerous fault, and your dealer needs to fix it or tell them you will reject the vehicle. It's a new vehicle FFS, should be perfect. They should fix the other faults too.

No engine management light or anything. First and only warning was sudden slowing down, followed by beeping from outraged people behind. Not good.

Whole list of stuff it could be from bad electrical connection somewhere to a faulty sensor, even engine management unit and or engine component.

I'd recommend getting your money back and buying an old 200/300Tdi, TD5 at a push ( you might have to LOL)

Why?

Because although the electric gismo's are amazing they're only amazing when they work. When they don't they can leave you in deep shiite. (sometimes literally LOL)

Whilst the electrical stuff is only great when it works, I disagree. Just get it sorted by the dealer, or they'll either have to refund you or give you a nice shiny new Puma. I think, long term, Puma's are going to be sought after - my gut tells me they'll be more reliable long term than Td5s.
 
"Happy" news in one sense - the dealer had the same problem on a test drive, but has no idea at all what caused it.

I am in two minds about rejectig or having them sort it. Don't want the hassle of rejecting it, but certainly do not want a hanger queen. I think that if it is resolved we will keep it, but under constant review.

It seems odd that brand new car in the 21st century can be so crap. However, in the short time that we have had it (and when it was working) you could see just how damn good Defenders (even Pumas) really are. It is easy to drive and absolutely capable.

Maybe a Puma is the ultimate cross between modern engineering and ... Defenderness.

We shall see.

we have 6(2x 10 reg and 4 x 60) and theyre all in various stages of disrepair. Build quaility is shockingly bad.
 
Not just 'fenders with dodgy build quality. We've had Volvos at work where every 10k miles the engine needs a rebuild, if that. One is on 17k and it's 4th major engine repair - if Volvo weren't so helpful (and it wasn't a fleet) they'd have been rejected for sure!

The best, so far, is the BMWs we have, but even then we've had a dodgy one. All manufacturers are cutting corners to reduce costs.
 
Well my Volvo (55 V 50) melted down (massive electrical failure) at the same time as the Defender!! Up to then entirely reliable. Post accident repair, so I am sure there is a link. While V 50 was being unbent, we had a Mondeo. Surprisingly really really good. Sorry to see it go.

Let me have my Defender back please!
 
How can Landrover allow this to continue. I have a 2008 Puma. last yeaar it power dropped so many times, Landrover SA replaced my engine. Guess what, the problem continues. Everybody complains, but where is the solution?? Landrover should recall all Pumas that has this Power Loss Crap and fix it, whether the car is under Warranty or not. I am terribly disappointed in this car. As much as I want to sell thbne thing, I will lose too much money. I will also feel too lousy too sell this car to my worst enemy.
