hello my da has asked me to ask if any one knows what the problem is with his disco 200 tdi? When he takes his foot off the accelorater there is a loud knock is this a propshaft problem?

could be the uj on the prop. could be the layshaft in the gearbox.

if it's just a single knock, it could be the A fame ball joint.

I had exactly the same noise on my wifes' Disco TDi 200. Turned out to be the ball joint on the rear 'A' frame.
I had a garage to do the work and apparently it was an absolute pig of a job to done because of RUST !! Not a problem you find often on a Disco - NOT MUCH !!
I've just looked at her this morning and the sills need doing both sides and the front inner wings - ho hum.

ALL Disco's 'clonk' a bit, my late '04 does it, but . . . it depends on how loud and where the clonk is !!!
To be fair, there is a lot of bits to wear and even just have some play in between the engine and the wheels !!

I wasn't suggesting that the sills and inner wings were causing any knocking - it's just more work to do on Daisy 2 the Disco

And it gets worse: Daisy was our first 4x4 - a Daihatsu fourtrack; Daisy 2 is my wifes' Disco TDi 200 and Daisy 3 is my Disco TDi 300 auto.

The Diahatsu was surprisingly competant Steve, it's just that the body rotted away - no wonder I feel so at home with Discos

I was only joking about the Diahatsu, I know they are real work horses and seem to go on forever !!
I have a new(ish) '04 Disco, one of the last series 2's made, and have already started to paint the chassis here and there, and am getting it Waxoyled this summer. The body is fine, as all but the passenger doors are alluminimum !!
You see plenty of L. M and P plate Discos about which look is good condition though !!
