Make sure you use the nuts AND the bolts that Island provide. I used their nuts on the originsl bolts a couple of years ago and striped the threads because they supplied metric nuts and the LR ones are imperial.

Prop bolts and nuts MUST be 3/8" UNF. There is no equivalent metric shank size.
 
Perhaps they were just **** nuts then? They only polished when I tried to torque them up, and becuase they'd polished I had a hell of a time trying to get them off again!

Maybe they sent you the wrong nuts. The only ones they sell as far as i can see are the correct nuts and bolts. Sounds like they were 10 mm nuts. And would have been a different spanner size.

Never though about mix mach,just used all new ..the nuts n bolts seemed ok for the price ,The problem might be if they ever need to come off;):D

No, they come in a pack marked "Propshaft nuts". They do look like propshaft nuts but the thread is definitely metric. Got a couple of packs in my shed. Bought them the same time as MrGorsky but after watching his debacle I never used them. Sat here waiting for the nuts now ...

The prop shaft nuts and bolts sold by Island are the correct Land rover part numbers as far as i can see. They have no others listed. 3/8" = 9.52 mm there is no metric thread that size. 10 mm is too large and bolts would not go through holes.

The Land Rover ones go straight on the bolts. Those ****part ones don't. Just plain poor workmanship? Bad batch? Don't know but given 16 nuts from Rimmers is less than a tenner, do yourself a favour and get the real deal.

You can get 20 3/8" HT UNF Nyloc nuts on Ebay for £2.61 or a 100 for £8.41. Rimmer rip off comes to mind.

You're right but they're cheap enough not to have to worry about whether the grade of steel or workmanship is up to it. They're a slightly odd shape and a tad longer than standard nuts. I am cautious about the bay!

As long as they are HT and will take the torque they will be fine. Prop shaft flanges are a shear fitting not a tension fitting.
