we got two yearly tests over here and the cost is around 50euros.. some parts of it are less strict than an MOT and other parts are fookin daft.
my BMW past with a loose steering colum and me jag failed because i had 235/60 x 15 instead of 225/65 x15 tyres on it. both done at the same station and by the same bloke.
so if its gonna be in line wiff european tests than it wint be as bad as the doom - gloom merchants make out.

...apart from it's likely to be three times as expensive, for the same thing as the european tests.

How does this effect high mileage drivers?
I used to be a field engineer and clocked up on average 50K per year.
Now most of my cars never made it to a MOT cos we sold them after a year.
But it occurs to me that some self employed drivers could run a car for 4 years or around 200km miles
until its first MOT and potentially not MOT it for another 100K miles.
This cannot be good?

i don't see why you say " this cannot be good?"

sensible people will keep their vehicles in good condition whether there is a test or not and ****s will still drive about in death traps. unlike most folk on here that post about mot time, i am mildly disappointed if mine fail.
after doing what it takes and paying what it takes i expect it to pass first time. the only time recently, in the last 15 or so years, i have had a fail was due to a daft rule about about not being able to put on slighty different tyres to the ones fitted at the factory.
even if the test was ever 5 years i reckon i could pass a snap test any time. with the odd exception if am waiting for a bit to arrive.

There's skwillions of people in this country (I'd say a growing number) who dunt even own a spanner, let alone would be able to work out if their motor was in need of anything other than go-go juice & a clean ashtray.

Plus folks generally can't be trusted to tax & insure their motors, let alone keep them roadworthy without lily law checking up on them.

ffs marcus mez landy arrived in boxes of bits like me kitchen the only difference was the landy bits fitted, where as the kitchen bits dint. but they'll both be working 100% when finished. as usual they probelly wint look startling but then most of me stuff dunt.
don't stop them going well though

You probabley right,

i was talking to a bloke today, he told me that he got and advisory notice for rear brake pads when he got his motor mot'd. so he told me that he was trying not to use his brakes too much, in order to make them last longer.

FFS what a plonka!

Same II you wuz on about? Froggy came down then? Sorry S, rilly can't get excited about a lawnmowa even if it if made by folks who make traters............unless you just bought a trata?

Yip Daft, got it. Er, might need your resourceful eye fer sum 'elp shortly, eek!

aye same one .; he accosted me in le clerc the other day and dropped his price..; then said he had someone else that wanted it...

so he has another buyer fer it. tracks me down in a supermarket then haggles abart the price.
somehow i'm not convinced he has another buyer fer it.
