Has anyone hooked up a mini propane bottle to there P38?
What does it go like?
I played with this years ago in a car...just a thought with the price petrol shooting up again?

Nothing complex, just bottle, demand valve and single point plenum union??:D

it won't work buddy. your normal propane bottle gives out vapour it works for a very small engine like a generator but after a few minutes in a p38 the bottle will freeze and you will run out of fuel

Wasnt the early lpg systems in the 80's run off bottled propane?

What about forklift bottles that have a liquid pickup, they have a pickup pipe inside them which is angled.
Obviously the bottle will need to be mounted on its side.

Will the P38 work with this with a single union in the plenum?

yes if you have a heated vapouriser aswell . There isn't any real difference in price between bottled and autogas so there isn't much advantage why not use a proper autogas tank? then you will have all the safety valves and auto shutoffs if you have a problem.

Mainly price.

The unit cost of Propane vs Autogas maybe be a couple of pence but with Propane are you not using a safe pressure tested bottle which is a hell of a lot more robust than an autogas tank, then use a propane auto shut-off and safety valve.
All this is a fraction of the price everyone is being ripped off for autogas kits.

you arent comparing like for like, you could use a very cheap single hole autogas tank they are built to exactly the same standards however the autogas tank will be airtight and vent outside the car should it need to , If your gas bottle vents it will fill the interior with gas vapour .
A modern autogas "kit" will be a proper fuel injection system that runs a translated injection pulse from the cars original engine management systems and all the original diagnostics will continue to function.
you should compare with a simple single point system which is exactly what you will need to use.
I'm curious what sort of car and what year was it that you were playing with?
the only cost difference is the tank and for safetys sake even get a second hand tank off ebay they fetch nothing as not even the scrap man will take a second hand gas tank.

why not have the gas tank installed at home and fill up from that, thats the only way to get a discount!! its on the same lines as using heating oil in a diesel.

a proper system is alot safer and more efficient than a home bodged version!!

I'm not recomending it but you can buy a pump to transfer gas from a bottle tipped upside down to your autogas tank.
Another consideration is that your autogas tank is properly secured whereas your suggestion of a bottle is a very heavy object floating around. in the event of an accident I wouldnt want to be anywhere nearby

propane is 62.7ppl for a 47kg bottle I'm currently paying 60ppl for autogas due to the quantity myself and my customers use

In Scotland Propane is 50ppl for 47kg bottle!
Maybe cheaper if shopping around
Cheapest autogas is 57ppl.
